A Drinking Song/Amhrán Na Póite

from Whorls by Enda Reilly

/

about

I composed the music for this track as part of the play Everlasting Voices. Thanks to Tristan and Cathal for pushing me to get something darker for this one. The translation to irish is by Gabriel Rosenstock.
The accompaniment was performed on the iPad with samples performed through a wonderful app called Thumbjam. And more guitar Fx in the background too.

lyrics

A DRINKING SONG /AMHRÁN NA PÓITE

Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That’s all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.

Sa bhéal isteach a thagann fíon
Sa tsúil isteach an grá;
Ní heol dúinn fírinne tharais sin
Roimh chríonna dúinn, roimh bhás,
Cuirim an ghloine lem bhéal,
Féachaim ort le hosna chléibh
